The Scale button provides access to all options which control
the Scale Fretboard.  By selecting the Scale button using the
enter key or the left mouse button, you have access to the
Scale button's popup menu.

B2
The Chord button provides access to all options which control
the Chord Fretboard.  By selecting the Chord button using the
enter key or the left mouse button, you have access to the
Chord button's popup menu.

B3
The Tuner button provides access to all options which provide
control over the tuning used on both the Scale and Chord
Fretboards.  By selecting the Tuner button using the enter key
or the left mouse button, you have access to the Tuner button's
popup menu.

B4
The Files button provides access to all options releated to
managing and standard MIDI files on your disk.  You can also
control certain aspects of a file after it has been loaded
into the program, such as which Tempo or Time Signature will
be used.  By selecting the Files button using the enter key
or the left mouse button, you have access to the Files button's
popup menu.

B5
The Play button provides access to all options which allow
you to play songs that have been loaded from disk.  By
selecting the Play button using the enter key or the left
mouse button, you have access to the Play button's popup
menu.

B6
The Record button provides access to all options which allow
you to create your own songs in memory.  By selecting the
Record button using the enter key or the left mouse button,
you have access to the Record button's popup menu.

B7
The Track button provides access to all options which allow
you to manage each independent piece (track) of a song you
are recording or playing.  By selecting the Track button using
the enter key or the left mouse button, you have access to
the Track button's popup menu.

B9
The Quit button halts the Guitar Master program.

P0.1
The Display option allows you to change the type of scale
currently displayed on the Scale Fretboard.  This option has
two sub-menus which let you specify both the key (A, A# etc)
and the actual type of scale (Major, Minor etc) to be
displayed.

P0.2
The Image option allows you to work with fretboard images on
the Scale Fretboard.  This option has a sub-menu which lets
you load and save the image to disk as well as rename and
delete previously saved images.  Other options allow you to
clear and title the current image.

P0.3
The Edit option allows you to turn any notes on the Scale
Fretboard on or off.  In addition, you can change the
notation to reflect the actual fingers used to play the
scale.  When you enter edit mode, you can use the left and
right arrow keys or the mouse to move around the fretboard.
Use the enter key or the mouse left button to select a
particular note for editing.  Use the escape key or mouse
right button to leave edit mode.

P0.4
The Notation option controls how the scale is communicated
on the Scale Fretboard.  This option has a sub-menu which
lets you specify the notation as Dots, Letters, Degrees or
Tablature.

P0.5
The View option controls whether the Scale Fretboard
is displayed with the neck of the guitar oriented
toward your right or left.  Keep in mind that
switching the orientation of the neck will reverse
the ordering of the strings.  For example, when
viewing a right-handed guitar with the neck to your
right (as if watching someone play), the low E string
will appear along the top of the guitar's neck while
the same guitar when viewed toward your left will have
its low E string along the bottom of the neck.

P0.6
The Guitar option controls whether the Scale Fretboard
is displayed as a right or left handed guitar.  When
viewing a right-handed guitar with the neck to the
right (as if watching someone play), the low E string
will appear along the top of the guitar's neck.  However,
when viewing a left-handed guitar with the neck to your
right, the low E string will appear along the bottom of
the guitar's neck.

P0.7
The Range Finder option controls how much information
is presented on the Scale Fretboard and also where
this information is located.  This option has a sub-menu
which lets you activate or de-activate the Range Finder
as well as move and size the Range Finder on the fretboard.

P0.8
The Fret Numbers option controls whether the frets
will be numbered along the top of the Scale Fretboard.

P0.9
The Print option will send a printout of the current
state of the Scale Fretboard to the printer.  The
destination printer port (LPT1 through LPT3) is controlled
by the Printer Port Default.

Enabling the Dots option instructs the program to
display a diamond shape (dot) at each note on the
Scale Fretboard which is part of the currently
displayed scale.

P3.2
Enabling the Letters option instructs the program
to display the actual note identity (A, A#, B etc)
at each note on the Scale Fretboard which is part
of the currently displayed scale.

P3.3
Enabling the Degrees option instructs the program
to display the number or degree (1, 3b, 5 etc) at
each note on the Scale Fretboard which is part of
the currently displayed chord.  The degree value
displayed is always relative to the major scale of
the currently displayed scale.

P3.4
Enabling the Tablature option instructs the program
to display the number of the fret where the note is
actually played on the Scale Fretboard.

P4.1
Use this option to display the Scale Fretboard with the neck
toward your right.  For example, when viewing a right-handed
guitar with the neck to you right (as if watching someone
play), the low "E" string will appear along the top of the
guitar neck.

P4.2
Use this option to display the Scale Fretboard with the neck
toward your left.  For example, when viewing a right-handed
guitar with the neck to you left, the low "E" string will
appear along the bottom of the guitar neck.

P5.1
Use this option to display the Scale Fretboard as a
right-handed guitar.  When viewing a right-handed guitar
with the neck to your right (as if watching someone play),
the low "E" string will appear along the top of the guitar

P5.2
Use this option to display the Scale Fretboard as a
left-handed guitar.  When viewing a left-handed guitar
with the neck to your right (as if watching someone play),
the low "E" string will appear along the bottom of the guitar
neck.

P6.1
The Display option controls whether the RangeFinder is
active or not.  When the Range Finder is turned on, the
Range Finder will be displayed along the bottom of the Scale
Fretboard neck and only the notes which are part of the
scale being displayed and which fall between the frets on
the Range Finder will be displayed.  This allows the musician
to concentrate on a particular area of the guitar neck
without being distracted by notes outside the area of
interest.

P6.2
The Size option controls the size (in frets) of the Range
Finder.

P6.3
The Range Finder may be moved up and down the neck by using
the Move option or by using the alt-u (Move Up Function) and
alt-d (Move Down Function) function keys.

P7.1
The Display option allows you to change the type of chord
currently displayed on the Chord Fretboard.  This option has

P13.1
The Display option controls whether the RangeFinder is
active or not.  When the Range Finder is turned on, the
Range Finder will be displayed along the bottom of the Chord
Fretboard neck and only the notes which are part of the
chord being displayed and which fall between the frets on
the Range Finder will be displayed.  This allows the musician
to concentrate on a particular area of the guitar neck
without being distracted by notes outside the area of
interest.

P13.2

access to a sub-menu which allows you to tune the string up
or down or reset it to its standard tuning value.

P14.4
The 4th String option allows you to change the tuning of the
fretboard's "D" string.  Selecting this option will provide
access to a sub-menu which allows you to tune the string up
or down or reset it to its standard tuning value.

P14.5
The 5th String option allows you to change the tuning of the
fretboard's "A" string.  Selecting this option will provide
access to a sub-menu which allows you to tune the string up
or down or reset it to its standard tuning value.

P14.6
The 6th String option allows you to change the tuning of the
fretboard's low "E" string.  Selecting this option will
provide access to a sub-menu which allows you to tune the
string up or down or reset it to its standard tuning value.

P14.7
The Standard Tuning option controls whether the open tuning
you specify will be applied to the Scale and Chord
Fretboards.  When Standard Tuning is turned on, standard
tuning will be used on both fretboards.  When Standard
Tuning is turned off, the tuning of each string specified by
the other options on this menu will be used on both
fretboards.

P15.1
The Tune Up option can be used to tune the selected string
up by one fret.  The current tuning of the string is
reflected at the top of the guitar neck.

P15.2
The Tune Down option can be used to tune the selected string
down by one fret.  The current tuning of the string is
reflected at the top of the guitar neck.

P15.3
The Reset option can be used to tune the selected string
to its original standard tuning.  The current tuning of the
string is refected at the top of the guitar neck.

P16.1
The Load option allows you to load a standard MIDI file from
disk into memory.  The file you wish to work with must be
loaded into memory before the program can play any tracks
from the song.  This option will bring up a list of all MIDI
files in the current directory with a file extension of
"MFF".  You can scroll this list using the up and down arrow
keys, the page up and page down keys and also the mouse.
Select the desired file using the enter key or the right
mouse button.

P16.2
The Save option allows you to take the song you are working
on in memory and store it on disk in standard MIDI file
format.  The program will save the song in a file whose name
specified with the Name option (as reflected in the Status
window).

P16.3
The Clear option allows you to clear whatever song is
currently loaded into memory.  All tracks will be erased.
All track names will also be cleared.  This option is useful
when starting to record a new song to be sure all information
from the previous song is erased.

P16.4
The Name option allows you to change the name which the
program will use when saving a standard MIDI file to disk.
The current name is specified in the lower right corner
of the Status window.

P16.5
The Tempo option allows you to specify the tempo which
will be used to play or record a song.  The tempo is
specified in metronome beats per minute (bpm).

P16.6
The Time Signature option allows you to specify which
particular time signature you wish to use when recording
a song.

P16.7
The Rename option allows you to rename a standard MIDI file
in the current directory.

P16.8
The Delete option allows you to delete a standard MIDI file
in the current directory.

P17.1
The Real Time option allows you to play the active
track of the currently loaded song on one of your
fretboards.  The song is played visually by displaying
the actual note value and duration of every note in
the song.  The type of audio output generated is
controlled by the Audio option.  The song is visually
played on the fretboard specified in the Destination
option.

P17.2
The Step Time option allows you to step forward and
backward through the active track of the currently
selected song.  The alt-n and alt-p keys may be used
to step to the next note and previous note of a song
respectively.

P17.3
The Audio option controls what type of audio output is
used when songs are played in real time.  Typically, when
you are playing songs in real time, you will want some type
of audio feedback to the visual graphics being displayed
on the computer fretboards.  This option has a sub-menu
which lets you disable audio output entirely, or send
it to either the MIDI port or your computer's speaker.

P17.4
The Time Resolution option controls the time duration
which the program will use to determine if two musical
events are simultaneous when stepping through a song
using the Step Time option.  Due to the speed limitations
of the MIDI channel, notes which were played simultaneously
on your MIDI instrument may be recorded with a slight time
differential.  The time resolution specifies how many
"internal clock ticks" must occur between two or more notes
before the program will recognize these notes as discrete
events during Step Time and not display them simultaneously.
Generally, if all notes of known chords are not being
displayed simultaneously during Step Time playback, the
time resolution must be increased so that the program can
recognize these events as occurring simultaneously.

P17.5
The Metronome option controls whether the audible metronome
will be used when playing a song.  This option will only
be enabled if the program has determined that an MPU-401
MIDI Processing Unit is attached to your computer.

P17.6
The Destination option controls which fretboard will be
used to display visual output when playing a song.

P18.1
The No Audio option instructs the program to not produce
any type of audio output during a real time playback.

P18.2
The MIDI option controls whether MIDI data for the song
being played will be sent to the MIDI out port of the
MPU-401.  This option can only be enabled if the program has
determined that an MPU-401 MIDI Processing Unit is attached
to your computer.

P18.3
The Speaker option controls whether the song is to be
simulated on the computer's built in speaker.  The speaker
cannot play more than one note at a time, therefore chords
will sound different when compared to playing the same chord
through the MIDI port.

P19.1
The Scale Fretboard option instructs the program to send any
visual (graphic) output to the Scale Fretboard during real
time or step time playback.

P19.2
The Chord Fretboard option instructs the program to send any
visual (graphic) output to the Chord Fretboard during real
time or step time playback.

P20.1
The Record option allows you to record musical information
on the active track of the currently loaded song.  While
recording, the program will store all incoming MIDI
information from the MIDI In port of the MPU-401 to the
active track.  The program will also display what you are
playing visually on the fretboard.  This option will only be
enabled if the program has determined an MPU-401 MIDI
Processing Unit is attached to your computer.

P20.2
The Overdub option allows you to play one track while
simultaneously recording another track of the song.  While
overdubbing, the program will store all incoming MIDI
information from the MIDI In port of the MPU-401 to the
track you select to record.  THe program will send musical
infomration from the active track to the MIDI Out port of
the MPU-401 so you can keep the recoring track in sync with
the playing track.  This option will only be enabled if the
program has determined an MPU-401 MIDI Processing Unit is
attached to your computer.

P20.3
The Lead-In option allows you to specify how many measures
the program will count before actually starting to record
musical information from the MIDI In port of the MPU-401.
This allows for a "ready time" before starting to record.

P20.4
The Metronome option controls whether the audible metronome
will be used when recording or overdubbing a song.  This
option will only be enabled if the program has determined an
MPU-401 MIDI Processing Unit is attached to your computer.

P20.5
The Destination option controls which fretboard will be
used to display visual output when recording or overdubbing
a song.

P21.1
The No Lead In option specifies that no lead in (0 measures)
is to be counted off before starting to record or overdub.

P21.2
The 1 Measure option specifies that one measure is to be
counted off before starting to record or overdub.

P21.3
The 2 Measures option specifies that two measures are to be
counted off before starting to record or overdub.

P21.4
The 3 Measures option specifies that three measures are to be
counted off before starting to record or overdub.

P21.5
The 4 Measures option specifies that four measures are to be
counted off before starting to record or overdub.

P22.1
The Scale Fretboard option instructs the program to send any
visual (graphic) output to the Scale Fretboard during
recording or overdubbing.

P22.2
The Chord Fretboard option instructs the program to send any
visual (graphic) output to the Chord Fretboard during
recording or overdubbing.

P23.1
The Active option allows you to change
the currently active track.  This affects
the recording and playing functions
accordingly.

P23.2
The Rename option allows you to label
a particular track of a song with a
descriptive name.
